Emeritus Board Member Job Description Template for Nonprofits

The Organization wants to retain the experience and wisdom of select Board members who have completed their term(s) of service, when it has been determined that they can be a continued, valuable source of advice and counsel to the Board, Board Chair, the Chief Executive Officer or Executive Director and Senior Management. These individuals may be accorded certain privileges and benefits traditionally accorded to full Board members, by the approval of the full Board, with the central restriction that they are not voting members of the Board. 
 
Like full Board members, Emeritus Board members are expected to uphold the legal duties of a Board member and to act at all times in the best interests of the Organization, its mission and its membership.
