We have found that our work with a client can be the beginning of a  transformational change within an organization.  We also have found that many clients need some initial support as they move forward to implement the next steps identified in the Assessment process. Our goal is not that you become dependent on us. Our goal is to help ensure that you are successful in executing the important initiatives, changes or ideas that emerged from the process.

We can work with you to develop action plans to fully implement recommendations or work directly with your governance or strategic planning committee and senior management on an as-needed basis. The implementation support we offer varies, depending on your Board’s depth and your staff’s capabilities, but it can often include:

  1. Drafting Key Leadership Documents. Many Boards struggle with maintaining clear lines of responsibility between their Board members, officers and senior leadership.  We can help, for example, by drafting Board Member, Board Officer (Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer) and CEO job descriptions. We can also further help to clarify roles and responsibilities by drafting or updating Committee and Task Force Charters.

  2. Revising or Developing Key Governance Documents. While it’s prudent to review an organization’s Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws on a periodic basis, making changes to these documents can be a very daunting task for many Boards. We can help. Our experienced team has worked with hundreds of Boards to revise, update and even develop these key governance documents.

  3. Developing or Updating Governance Policies.  We also find that many organizations do not have fully-developed governance policies or policy manuals in place. Again, this is an area where we can be of service. Even if you do have an expansive governance policy manual, it’s important to review it on a regular basis to ensure that it is up-to-date with current best practices.

  4. Delivering Follow-up Training and Presentations. Part of implementing new governance policies and building a stronger culture based on those policies is being sure that everyone is on the same page. We can provide training – from intimate trainings for your Board to presentations to your entire federation – we employ a variety of techniques including PowerPoint presentations, case-studies, hypotheticals, large and small group exercises, handouts and flip-charts – all designed to engage and educate your attendees.

  5. Offering Executive Coaching. If you find that your organization is wrestling with a specific set of issues that are best not addressed by the larger Board, we can also provide one-on-one executive coaching for your CEO or Executive Director, Board Chair and other members of your Executive Committee.  Often, it’s this individual, direct work that can have the greatest impact on the underpinnings of an organization’s governance culture.
